Round 1, 6dc into the first of these chains
Round 2, 3 & 4, 1dc in each dc
Round 5, 2dc in each dc
Round 6, 1dc in each dc

Change to
orange yarn
Round 7 ( 2dc in next dc, 1c in next dc) x 6 (18sts)
Place stitch marker
Round 9, 1dc in each dc
Round 10, ( 2dc in next dc, 1dc in next 3dc ) x 6 ( 30sts)
Round 11, (2dc in next dc, 1dc in next 4dc ) x 6 ( 36sts)
Round 12, (2dc in next dc, 1dc in next 5dc ) x 6 (42sts)
Move stitch maker up
Next 7
rounds 1 dc in each sts
Round 20, (dc2tog, 1dc in next 5dc) x 6 ( 36sts)
Round 21 & 22, 1dc in each dc

Depending on your tension you may need more or less rows at
the end, keep checking over your orange.
It will be tight but it needs to be as the yarn will stretch a bit each
time you put it on and take it off.

Sew in loose ends and stitch on tendrils where required

Using black yarn
Make 4ch ( this makes 1 ch and 1 tr)
Round 1, 9tr in the first ch made , ss join into the top of the 3ch that counted as a tr.
Round 2, 3ch ( counts as a tr) 1tr into base of this st, 2tr in each remaining tr ( 20 sts).
Round 3, 3ch ( counts as a tr) 1tr into base of this st, 2tr in each remaining tr ( 40 sts).
Round 4, 3ch (counts as a tr) 1tr in each tr.
Round 5, 3ch (counts as a tr) 1tr in each tr.
Round 6, 3ch (counts as a tr) 1tr in each tr.
Change to red yarn
Round 7, 3ch (counts as a tr) 1tr in each tr, ss join.
Round 8, 3ch (counts as a tr) 1tr in each tr, ss join.
Round 9, 1ch ( counts as a dc) 1dc in each tr, ss join.

Making up
Sew in all loose ends. taking 2 ears with wrong sides facing each other, crochet or sew ears together, leave enough yarn at the end to sew onto the hat. Repeat with other 2 ears.
NOTE : I like to sew ears into position whilst on the doll as sometimes depending on dolls shape of head the centre is not always where you think.
